ON DVD TODAY: Statham, dancing and pig noses

“The Bank Job” (R):
Butch, scruffy, awesome Jason Statham leads a crew of dodgy types on a bank heist. And, well, things get complicated when the crew finds out they’re really just pawns for the British government. Convoluted, fun and with plenty of head-butting. Oh, and based on a true story. GRADE: B+

“Step Up 2 the Streets” (PG-13):
In this sequel — the most ingeniously titled film so far this year (sarcasm) — a rebellious street dancer lands at a hoity-toity dance school, and, um, fights convention, conquers her fears and realizes her dream and stuff. Forget the story. If you like amazing dance moves instead of character or plot, this is your poison. Plus Channing Tatum cameo! (sarcasm) GRADE: C+
—————————————————————————————————-

“College Road Trip” (G):
Martin Lawrence and Raven-Symone play dad and daughter shopping for the right college and just maybe learning a thing or two about each other in the process. This Disney family comedy’s pretty bad, with Martin and Raven consistently being upstaged by a recurring piglet. GRADE: D

“Penelope” (PG):
Speaking of pigs, Christina Ricci plays a girl with a pig nose in this modern day fairy tale. Understandably, Ricci’s trait doesn’t make finding a man easy. But maybe a dashing young lad played by James McAvoy can see past it. GRADE: D-
